JPY Cash Withdrawal Fee

Find the cheapest way to get yen cash in Japan.

What this solves

Japan is famously cash-heavy. Tourists find that 7-Bank ATMs (in 7-Eleven, Marui, NewDays) charge ¥110 per withdrawal for foreign cards. JP Post ATMs (every post office) charge ¥110. Domestic bank ATMs (Mitsubishi UFJ, SMBC) may not accept international cards at all. This tool compares ATM options + foreign transaction fees from your bank + credit-card cash advance (3-5% of transaction).

Limitations

2026 reference. Some banks now waive FTF (Capital One Venture, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Schwab). Travel cards have different add/less policies for JPY. We don't model your bank's specific terms — check the card agreement.

FAQ

Why was my withdrawal declined?

Most common reason: foreign card was set to "no overseas use" by your home bank. Log in to your banking app and enable overseas ATM. Some banks require a one-time confirmation phone call.

Can I use Apple Pay at the ATM?

Yes. iPhone 8+ in Express Transit mode with a Suica cannot withdraw cash. But you can tap a contactless card at Plus/Cirrus ATMs at FamilyMart/Lawson.

What's the per-withdrawal minimum?

7-Bank ATM: minimum ¥1,000 (often ¥10,000 at older machines). JP Post ATM: ¥1,000. Domestic: ¥10,000 or more.
