How to read results
- Tokyo 23 wards: starting ¥500 first 1.047 km, then ¥100 per 237 m. Surcharge +20% 22:00–05:00.
- Kyoto: starting ¥600 first 1.2 km, then ¥100 per 245 m. Surcharge +20% 22:00–05:00.
- Mt Fuji sightseeing: ¥25,000-40,000 for 3-4 hour taxi (4-passenger) tours to Kawaguchiko, Hakone, or Chureito Pagoda area. MK Cab, Fujimi Kanko Taxi; must reserve 1+ day ahead.
- Luggage: large bags fit in trunk, no surcharge, but limited 4-passenger capacity. Some Tokyo taxis now have Universal Design 6-seater vans (¥300 surcharge).
Limitations
2026 reference prices. Real fares depend on actual route (highway vs street), tolls (¥700-1,500 if you ask the driver to use Shuto Expressway), and waiting time (¥100 per 1.5 min). For taxi packages, prices differ by season (Mt Fuji spring ¥10,000+ premium). Always confirm with the dispatch office when booking.
FAQ
Do Japanese taxis speak English?
Most do not. Drivers read basic Roman letters (addresses work if you print them). For Mt Fuji tours, choose English-speaking companies (MK, Fujimi, JTB Sunrise Tours).
Can I pay by credit card?
Most Tokyo taxis accept major credit cards; smaller Kyoto/Osaka taxis may be cash-only. Apple Pay (Suica) is accepted on virtually all Japan taxis 2025+. IC card on the meter screen reads as payment.
Should I tip the driver?
No. Tipping is considered rude. The driver may refuse or chase you down to return the money. Japan is one of the few countries where tipping insults service workers.
